Nutrient Capturing

Three alternatives

Urine management

Luna 0 offers various ways to manage urine. Choose one of the three options below depending on what works best for you.

[1]

Collection/spread:

An easy setup for those who can reuse the urine as fertilizer. Collection can take place in a rain barrel, container, or directly in a watering can. In many municipalities, this also follows environmental guidelines.

[2]

Infiltration:

Where it meets municipal requirements, the urine can be infiltrated into the ground. The urine is best spread in the upper soil layer for better nutrient absorption.

[3]

Existing sewage system:

If the toilet is placed near an existing sewage system, for example in a guest house, the urine can be directed to the main line.

Emptying

Solid waste management

We recommend to empty the solid waste every 14 days to prevent the bag from starting to begin compost inside the toilet.

[1]

Remove the rim, underneath it, you'll find a part of the bio-bag that has been protected.

[2]

Fold down the bag in the bucket.

[3]

Put on the bucket lid.

[4]

Lift up the bucket and turn it upside down over the latrine compost.

[5]

Insert a new bag and place the bucket with the rim back into the toilet.

Solid waste

Waste management

Choose one of the following three options for dealing with solid waste

01Latrine Compost

Compost in a latrine compost and produce your own nutrient-rich soil. Often, two containers are needed, filling alternate years so the waste has time to turn into soil. Check what applies in your specific municipality and apply for latrine composting permission. We're happy to help answer any questions!
