Bie Seipel

Bie Seipel lives on a smallholding outside Mariefred, where she mows with a scythe and is passionate about biodiversity – making sure the bees always have flowers to feed on. She has recently built an Attefall house by Enkelrum on the property, where a Luna has found its place. For Bie, choosing Luna was a natural extension of the same philosophy that shapes the rest of the property. “We’ve always composted our grass clippings and garden waste, so it feels natural to us that our own human waste should also be returned to the soil as nutrients.”
The water-free bathroom
At the washing station, collected rainwater is used for cleaning. Drinking water is not used unnecessarily.

The house features many black details, which made an all-black Luna the natural choice.
Bie strives to be as self-sufficient as possible. “I want to be prepared if something happens. You never know if the power will go out or what might happen in this uncertain world. Knowing that Luna can be used during a power outage gives me peace of mind. In addition to Luna, I have also installed a manual well pump so that we always have access to drinking water.”
She had been following Harvest Moon since she first saw Luna a few years ago and was happy to be able to order her house with the toilet already installed.
“As a designer, design is a natural part of the experience for me. I’ve worked with form and design all my life, so I probably pay a little extra attention to how things look.”
Bie grew up with an outdoor toilet and has no objections to that solution, but she knows that not all generations feel the same way. “I still think an outdoor toilet works well, but my children and especially my grandchildren have higher expectations when it comes to comfort. With Luna, no one has to compromise.”
The urine is collected in a tank with wheels, making it easy to move, and the tank is housed in a small structure that will soon be covered with grass. The urine is spread around the property using a watering can, while the solid waste is composted. “It feels good knowing that the nutrients stay here and are returned to the soil.”
