Victor Malm & Viktor Persson
As part of a prototype project with Harvest Moon, Victor and Viktor renovated their outdoor toilet using components from Luna.
After spending a lot of time on the interior design and colour scheme of their cottage in Södermanland, Victor and Viktor wanted a dry toilet that fitted in. Their ugly outdoor toilet with a polystyrene seat was transformed, and many of the couple’s guests have commented on how nice it looks, not least because of the new seat made from wood composite – Luna’s. “At first, we were worried that composting the faeces would feel unpleasant, but it’s much cleaner than dealing with the expensive latrine bins that the municipality used to collect. We thought changing the bins would still be a hassle, but because there’s no smell, this feels like a much better solution. Separating the waste really makes things easier.”

No electricity or running water
The outdoor toilet requires no electricity, and the washing station consists of a simple container filled with well water.

The old outdoor toilet could be preserved thanks to the renovation with urine separation.
Victor and Viktor bought the cottage together with Viktor’s sister and her partner to create a place where they can get away from the city on weekends, holidays and vacations. Both grew up in the countryside and wanted to create their own place to relax and grow things. They grow a lot here and try to live close to nature. The urine is spread around the property as fertiliser, while the solid waste is composted in a latrine compost. This way, all the nutrients from the outdoor toilet can be returned to nature instead of being transported away. “Now we don’t have to pay for the expensive latrine collection, and we can spread the nutrients in the forest and also get some nice soil for next year.”

The solid waste is composted together with Harvest Moon’s sugarcane bags in a latrine compost. By next year, they will have rich, homemade soil.
