Tobias Svanberg joins Harvest Moon

After two decades at IKEA, Svanberg takes on the role of Head of Strategy and Business Development at the Swedish company behind the award-winning waterless toilet LUNA.
Tobias Svanberg has joined Harvest Moon as co-owner and Head of Strategy and Business Development, effective 1 October. He brings 20 years of experience from IKEA, most recently as Innovation Leader for Water and Energy. At Harvest Moon he will lead commercial product and range development and shape a sustainable, profitable business model for the company.
During his time at IKEA, Svanberg worked across purchasing, innovation and product development in kitchens and bathrooms. In his latest role he drove product innovation in water and energy, two of the company’s key strategic areas. He led development of the BERGVATTNET collection and oversaw IKEA’s partnership with water-tech company Altered, which produced the water-saving ÅBÄCKEN nozzle now sold in IKEA stores.

It was LUNA that brought him to Harvest Moon.

“The moment I saw LUNA, I realised this was a space that’s been overlooked for far too long,” says Svanberg. “Plenty of people and homes need a toilet that works without water or sewage, but the options out there mean making a lot of compromises. What I saw was a beautifully designed product, and a genuinely exciting, sustainable business that does real good.”
Harvest Moon designs waterless sanitation for homes where connecting to water and sewage is impossible or impractical. LUNA separates liquid and solid waste and uses biochar and active ventilation to keep things fresh and odour-free. The toilet has won several design awards, including Design S and the Pioneer category at the 2023 Grand Award of Design (formerly Stora Designpriset).
Svanberg also knows the problem first-hand.
“When I built a small annex house on my property, it cost me over SEK 70,000 just to lay sewage pipes across the garden,” he says. “If a waterless toilet is good enough, looks good and works well, it’s a far better option than tearing up your whole plot.”
Harvest Moon CEO Petra Holmbäck says his blend of product expertise and commercial experience makes him a valuable addition to the team.
“Tobias has a track record of taking ideas all the way to finished products,” says Holmbäck. “That’s exactly the experience we need as we grow our range, reach more customers and build a profitable business.”
Before IKEA, Svanberg worked in manufacturing and product development at Vagabond and Stadium. He grew up in Småland and lives in Älmhult.
