Why Luna?

Bie Seipel lives on a smallholding outside Mariefred, where she mows with a scythe and is passionate about biodiversity – making sure the bees always have flowers to feed on. An Attefall house by Enkelrum, where her grandchildren can stay, has recently been built on the property, and a Luna has been installed in it. “I want to be prepared if something happens. You never know if the power will go out or what might happen in today’s uncertain world. Knowing that Luna can still be used during a power outage gives me peace of mind. I have electricity in the house now, but I’ll probably power Luna with solar panels and batteries in the future.”

Architectural project manager and textile designer Petra de Verdier leaves nothing to chance when it comes to aesthetics. Her holiday home outside Gnesta is used year-round but has no blackwater drainage system – no sewer connection for toilet waste. “I’m really happy with it! Luna is quiet and doesn’t smell at all. I empty the bucket into a Roslags compost and use the urine to water the garden, which is incredibly convenient. For me, it’s important to reduce my environmental footprint as much as I can while also ending up with nutrient-rich water for the plants and rich soil over time. My teenage daughter says it feels just like using a regular toilet now that we’ve learned how to sit so that everything ends up in the right place. She also pointed out that Luna is better looking than the neighbour’s composting toilet.”

Thomas Sandell is one of Sweden’s leading architects and designers. He chose Luna in a custom colour from an earlier edition, which he felt further enhanced its already strong aesthetic appeal. “I have it in my studio next to our summer house in the Stockholm archipelago, so I don’t have to walk to the main house when I’m working. I’m so pleased with both Luna’s functionality and its accessories that I’ve recommended it to several of my clients in the archipelago.” Two years later, the family installed a second Luna in a newly built library on the property, this time with a black base and a taupe-coloured lid.

After spending a great deal of time on the interior design and colour palette of their cottage in Södermanland, Victor Malm and Viktor Persson wanted a dry toilet that felt right. Their old outdoor toilet, with its polystyrene seat, was transformed as part of a prototype project with Harvest Moon, and many of the couple’s guests commented on how beautiful it had become – not least because of the new, luxurious Luna seat. “At first, we were worried that composting our toilet waste would feel unpleasant, but it’s actually much cleaner than dealing with the expensive latrine bins the municipality used to collect. And because it doesn’t smell at all, it’s a much better solution.” Later, they also installed a Luna inside the house.
